As mentioned in the above thread, a group of us have been busy in the background looking at ideas for the site. I would like to thank those people for all there hard work and dedication through their input over that period, thanks guys.
As we are now in the last few months until the game goes live, and, hopefully other members start to become more active over that period to come, and should new people come into the group over those months, we can now look at throwing up ideas, or queries concerning potential strategies based on what we know so for from video interviews and such relating to what mechanics we have observed.
We know we have not a cat in hells chance of mapping the Galaxy, and we have known this from the start, and, we have briefly looked at ways of presenting the route of our own progress through the galaxy. Whether that be straight to the center or spiraling in towards it, whether one will circumnavigate the galaxy or not, and even some may go well off the beaten track in their exploration.
So at least we can create maps of our own journey in the hopes that at some point we can come across a breadcumb from another pilots journey, though even that would be a very low probability. So that is one subject.
Another subject may well be how you are going to record your journey and your findings, ie, via documents, .pdf's, videos, maps, or other media, that can then be linked through our site, and linked via the dedicated forums the admin kindly created for us here on these forums months ago.
Rather than have the thread run into a discussion based on and around speculations (there are many of those threads already on site), I would rather we look at strategies based on what we already know. So anyone interested in say chemistry may have ideas on how they will be presenting their findings concerning minerals, or how to present recipes or blueprints they find etc. Those interested in the cartography aspects, can look at ways of presenting their own journey graphically for example.
Those interested in caveing can look at ways of representing a long and thorough cave map should they be interested. certainly something that I would like to do at least once. Someone else may be interested in gathering and putting together a ship catalogue, etc etc. These are the sorts of things that can and will be linked through the sites should members create them and wish to share.
So any ideas relating to practicalities, (based on what little we know now, and in the future can be built on or adapted when the game goes live) feel free to discuss or share your ideas.
I would like to share some thoughts about the process I would like to use for exploring and documenting discoveries in the hope that it will be of some use to fellow explorers. My procedure upon entering a system will be to conduct an Initial Survey of each planet so that basic data is available to prioritize further exploration and determine the extent of further surveys of individual planets.
Acronym for Planetary Procedure: SNIP, OCCUPY O rient (Planetary compass directions) S can planet C ircumnavigate the planet N ame planet C alculate planetary data, (Circumference, Period of rotation, etc.) I dentify nature of POI U pload discovery data to Atlas P lot PointsOfInterestnts P rioritize excursions to PointsOfInterest Y eild to the temptation to explore
Planetary Survey Catagories: Initial survey – Assess environment Compute planetary size/rotation Identify all PointsOfInterest Name Planet Scan for life forms
Standard Survey – Perform Initial Survey Identify Beacon-Prime Establish base camp Establish planetary compass PointsOfInterest Prioritize PointsOfInterest Upload data to Atlas Relationally map all PointsOfInterest and Beacon-Prime Investigate all PointsOfInterest Catalog resources Search for lifeforms
Extended Survey – Conduct Standard Survey Catalog Fauna Map major landmasses Make detail maps of all PointsOfInterest Establish navigational data
Exhaustive Survey - Conduct Extended Survey Map the entire planet Catalog Flora Accumulate climate data I intend to accomplish presentation of this data via the forms currently linked to my explorer profile on the Bedouin website which Sunlion has established. Blank forms for those who wish to use them are linked to the Exploration page of the same website.

Personaly I think that is a very good and well organised check list you have created there nivekisrom , certainly something I would use, and could also be incoporated into a captains log on each of ones full survey's. My intention would be to do a full survey on every x# of planets along my journey, hopefully at points where obvious variation changes occur. Once we have been ingame and travelled to various worlds, then we can get a better picture of how many systems apart such noticeable variations do occur. Those locations would be where I do a full survey, then just hop the others (barring mat collections) until a suitable distance occurs where another geater noticeable variation change may well occur.
